Trade Show Signage: Preparation Tips and Ideas
February 18, 2010
Though your company may be a small name in the midst of giants in a trade show, you can still distinguish yourself profitably by making smart use of your signage. Combined with your booth’s equipment, some planning, and a little ingenuity on your part, you can execute the following ideas in your signs to make your trade show exhibit a hit.
Useful Tips and Tricks for Preparing Trade Show Signage
Plan and prepare for your trade show signage early, from the budget you’ll allocate for printing costs to your posters and banners’ specifications. One good way to realistically prepare for the latter is to draw a mockup of your trade show booth’s floor layout. Mark the places where you plan to put up signs, and add notes on what information those signs should contain. Take predicted foot traffic flow into consideration when deciding both your signs’ placement and designs so you can attract and keep people’s interest the best way possible.
Fully incorporate your booth’s equipment with your exhibit signs. If you arrange your booth’s tables, chairs, and drapes without taking your signage into consideration or vice versa, you may be missing out on a booth layout that will better encourage attendees to approach you. Every sign and equipment in your booth should be placed strategically for a specific purpose. Allow a significant amount of space in your booth for some of the trade show’s foot traffic to enter while maintaining optimum sign exposure and placement around that traffic.
Display interactive and interesting signs. For your promotional signs, go for large type, great images, attention-grabbing headlines, and straight to the point copy. As for interactive signs, try setting aside space in your booth for a photo opportunity stand. Print an appealing backdrop design attendees can stand in front of for pictures, or print some full-body photos vertically on vinyl banners and cut out the faces for a photo stand that’s more fun. As long as these photo stands prominently display your company’s logo, these interactive signs are great opportunities to make attendees remember you better.
Give signs away for free for attendees’ top of mind awareness. Poster calendars are a great example of signs you can use this way. If these calendars are designed well enough to serve both decorative and promotional purposes, they can remind people of your company all year long.
Do your research and be different! Do background research on the trade show you’re attending. Do the exhibitors tend to play it safe with subdued, minimalist booth signage, or do they usually compete aggressively for attention with loud banners? As long as you stay within the trade show’s guidelines, find ways to differentiate yourself significantly from your booth neighbors. Whether or not these exhibitors are your competitors, your trade show booth’s success depends heavily on your ability to be unique.
